12 Runners, 2 van drivers, 6 Distilleries, 200 miles, in 33 hours and 52 minutes.

The purpose of this blog is to track The Rabid Squirrel Shine Chasers as they tackle The Bourbon Chase, a 200 Mile 12 person overnight relay race on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

We thought this would be a great way to record our adventure on the Bourbon Trail, as well as a way to share our experience with those that are interested.

Our name was given to us by one of our own. It was a simple picture that made us laugh and remember a fun evening after a half marathon in Florida. It was submitted half heartedly as a joke but it stuck and that is how the Rabid Squirrels came to be shine chasers.

According to the North Carolina, Illinois, and Idaho Department of Natural Resources, signs and symptoms of rabies infection in squirrels may include lethargy, extreme aggression, immobility or difficulty moving. We are expecting that after running 200 miles and spending about 34 hours with 7 people in a van, we will exhibit all these rabies symptoms. After consulting with our team physician it was determined that the cure for rabies would be Bourbon, hence the chase.

So join us as we trundle down the roads of Kentucky with nothing but moonshine on our minds!

We, humble rabid minions would like to thank our team Captain Alicia for making all of this possible, Our Drivers Perry and Julie who have dedicated their weekend to guiding us safely to the finish line. And last but not least, we would like to acknowledge our artist, Jeff Zimmerman, who captured Joe, the Grand Poobah of the Rabid Squirrel Shine Chasers, with his brilliant art work that will adorn our t-shirts.
